Our Clinical Supervision Diploma
This qualification is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for providing clinical supervision to counselling practitioners. It is suitable for counsellors who have sufficient experience working with clients and are considering progressing into a clinical supervision role.
To enrol, individuals should:
• Provide evidence that you hold a diploma in counselling skills & theory and have a minimum of three years experience as a counsellor or 500 hours practice.
• Be currently working as a counsellor under supervision

How long is the course?
The course is taught part time weekly over 15 Saturdays.
This course is ideal for qualified counsellors seeking to enhance their therapeutic private practice. A minimum of Level 3 in counselling skills (or equivalent), 3 years experience or 500 hours practice is required for enrolment.
What is involved on the course?
The qualification prepares learners for a role as a clinical counselling supervisor, whether within a counselling organisation or in private practice. Supervision is a fundamental part of professional development for all practising counsellors, and having a recognised qualification can enhance employability and career prospects in this field.
Clinical Supervision
The Clinical Supervision Diploma guides supervisors through a structured journey of professional and personal development. It begins by encouraging reflection on one’s own definition of supervision, core values, assumptions, and preferred supervisory style. Participants are supported to establish a professional practice and consider what constitutes good and poor counselling. The focus broadens to explore how wider cultural, political, economic, and organisational contexts influence supervision and shape the supervisory relationship.
- Clarify your personal philosophy, values, and approach to supervision.
- Establish a professional practice grounded in ethical and reflective standards.
- Recognise how broader systemic contexts affect both supervisees and supervision.
- Build a unique, context-sensitive working alliance with each supervisee.
Dynamics of Supervision
The practical dynamics of supervision: preparing for the first meeting, defining the working alliance, and creating a clear, negotiated contract. Emphasis is placed on the supervisor’s core responsibilities—structuring sessions, facilitating meaningful supervision work, and maintaining the working agreement. Supervisors are encouraged to be intentional, flexible, and responsive to supervisees’ developmental stages and needs.
- Develop a clear, collaborative working agreement using strong negotiation skills.
- Manage session structure while adapting to supervisee needs and context.
- Apply purposeful interventions and micro-skills at each stage of supervision.
- Anticipate and address common challenges with confidence and care.
Ultimate Purpose
Supervision’s ultimate purpose is to support counsellor development and ensure high-quality client care. This includes the supervisor’s normative role in monitoring, assessing, and providing constructive challenge. Supervisors are reminded they need not carry this responsibility alone and are encouraged to build supportive professional networks to sustain ethical, effective practice.
What do I do after I complete the Clinical Supervision Diploma?
Upon completing all assignments and demonstrating your skills throughout each class, you will be awarded your Clinical Supervision Diploma. By the end of the course, you will have gained valuable insights not only about your professional abilities but also about yourself. You will feel confident in your new knowledge and skills, enabling you to feel confident in Supervising Counsellors.
